“There is no love sincerer than the love of food.”
George Bernard Shaw

How do we feel about superlatives? I can’t think of a better way to describe my love of food. It’s one of the few things in life that incorporate the use of all 5 senses (or however many you have at your disposal). That’s fricking incredible!
Hiya! My name is Dita. I’m a food obsessed, cooking obsessed, baking obsessed physician who has been developing recipes since she was 13 years old and has been known to read cookbooks from cover to cover. When I’ve prepared a meal, the sound of silverware clanking on plates amidst murmurs of “mmmmm” and “have you tasted this” is a drug I’m not willing to shake. Being in the kitchen brings a calm to my mind that few other things in my life impart and if I ever have the honor of being given a name by someone who is Native American, I’m pretty sure the translation would be “will travel for food”.
What This Is
Several of my friends are incredibly talented in the kitchen and a some of them and I were part of a joyful rotating dinner party. That is, until Mother Nature sent COVID-19 to put all of us in timeout. While outside during a socially-distanced drive-by baby shower, I made a joking comment about starting a blog so that we could keep tabs of what each other is scaring up in our respective kitchens. Well, my friend set it up and it was so fun! But, as life inevitably happens, posts lessened and I grew restless not being able to share food in this way. And so here we are. This is going to be a space to talk about what’s happening in my little apartment kitchen, whose recipes I’m trying, what cooking videos I’m watching, what recipes I’m developing and (once outside opens again) where I’m eating, either locally or around the world. It’s most likely to be abbreviated blurbs with a dash of snark (see this blog’s title) and a lot of references to my nerdy leanings rather than inspirational stories of cooking with my grandma along with step-by-step how to’s (unless you ask) and photos that would make a food stylist weep. And I like puns. They’ll probably be used liberally. You’ve been warned.
What This Isn’t
Inspirational stories of cooking with my grandma along with step-by-step how to’s (unless you ask) and photos that would make a food stylist weep. It also is not a niche for any particular kind of diet except for eating what you want but doing so in moderation (most of the time). There won’t be cute photos of my dog waiting expectantly for me to drop a crumb because I don’t have one. Nor will there be cute photos of my kid licking the icing off a spatula, because I don’t have one of those either. And although I’m not saying that there will be sneak peeks of a fabulous pair of shoes or brooch peeking out from under a bowl I am holding, I am not not saying that, either.
